What do wholesale customers focus on when purchasing brown fused alumina?

Brown fused alumina (BFA) is an industrial alumina material made by melting bauxite in an electric arc furnace, rapidly cooling it, and then crushing and screening it. When we mention brown fused alumina, we usually think of brown corundum for abrasives and brown corundum for refractory. However, many overlook the fact that high-quality brown fused alumina can also be used to manufacture water treatment products.

Recently, during routine business activities, we met with a large municipal water plant. We learned that frequent filter media pulverization and backwashing led to high operating costs and fluctuating effluent turbidity. Therefore, we provided a sample of brown corundum for water treatment with a diameter of 0.6 mm (PSD, ICP, and wear report included with the sample) and offered backwashing parameters and bed depth recommendations. After a 60-day trial run, the average effluent turbidity decreased by 35%, the backwashing frequency decreased from 3 times per week to once per week, and the filter media wear rate and pulverization rate decreased by 60%. We immediately signed an annual supply contract with the customer (500 tons/year) and conducted quarterly technical follow-ups and batch reports in accordance with company regulations.
